Bologna, Lasagne e RE LASAGNA®!!!

Sempre lei, la piu’ conosciuta nel mondo è la LASAGNA, o sono le LASAGNE? Ma qual’è la vera differenza tra LASAGNA e LASAGNE?

Per la pasta piatta e larga e il piatto a base di tale pasta, gli anglofoni nordamericani usano le lasagne. Gli anglofoni provenienti da fuori del Nord America di solito usano le lasagne. La parola viene dall’italiano, ovviamente. In quella lingua, lasagna è il nome singolare e lasagne è il plurale, ma questo non si ripercuote nel trattamento delle parole in inglese. Sia la forma plurale che quella singolare sono solitamente trattate come sostantivi di massa, assumendo verbi singolari.

La parola è apparsa per la prima volta in inglese nel 19 ° secolo, ma il piatto non è diventato popolare nei paesi di lingua inglese (gli Stati Uniti prima, poi altrove) fino alla seconda metà del 20° secolo. Entrambe le forme hanno avuto traiettorie quasi identiche, in termini di quando sono apparse e quando sono diventate più comuni, sulle sponde opposte dell’Atlantico.

For the flat, wide pasta and the dish made from such pasta, North American English speakers use lasagna. English speakers from outside North America usually use lasagne. The word comes from Italian, of course. In that language, lasagna is the singular noun and lasagne is the plural, but this does not carry over into the words’ treatment in English. Both the plural and the singular forms are usually treated as mass nouns, taking singular verbs.

The word first appeared in English in the 19th century, but the dish did not become popular in English-speaking countries (the U.S. first, then elsewhere) until the second half of the 20th century. Both forms have had nearly identical trajectories, in terms of when they appeared and when they grew more common, on opposite sides of the Atlantic.
